Academic Prisoners after 7 October: A Systematic Arrest Campaign against the Educational Elite in Palestine and the Forced Displacement of Minds
A report exposes a sweeping campaign of arrests targeting Palestinian academics and students since 7 October 2023, revealing how Israel’s detention policies have become a direct attack on education and freedom of thought.
Drawing on field data and legal analysis, the report documents the widespread use of administrative detention, denial of legal counsel, and physical and psychological abuse. Universities across the West Bank and Jerusalem—among them Birzeit, An-Najah, Al-Quds, and Hebron—have been affected, with hundreds of academics and more than 850 students detained.
Beyond statistics, the report frames these arrests as punishment for expression and political position, situating them within a broader effort to silence Palestinian intellectual life. It argues that the campaign constitutes a grave breach of international humanitarian and human rights law.
